The Golden State Warriors and Warriors Basketball Academy announced today that the San Francisco Rebels have been named one of six finalists for the Jr. NBA Program of the Year, sponsored by Under Armor. The winner of the Jr. NBA Program of the Year is determined by an NBA executive voting panel and fan voting.

Nate Ford, founder and executive director of the San Francisco Rebels, provides comprehensive development through education, athletics, advocacy, after-school activities, and downtown youth ages 6-18, including the San Francisco boys and girls clubs, and their families Leisure activities, job placement, leadership training and other support services. The program helps students gain acceptance and scholarships to attend private high schools in San Francisco, provides financial assistance, SAT and ACT college preparation courses, and resources for applying for college admission. The San Francisco Rebels sponsored over 60 college students and three alumni who are WNBA and NFL athletes, including Jene Morris, Jason Hill, and Taiwan Jones. In addition, teenagers have attended various Warriors Basketball Academy programs over the past 20 years, including the Warriors Basketball Camp and the Junior Warriors Basketball League.

During the pandemic, the San Francisco Rebels added case management services to the programs to expand tutoring and academic support to students and families who are not part of the basketball program, and to incorporate food programs for teens and seniors across the city. The San Francisco Rebels work at the Ernest Ingold San Francisco Boys and Girls Club with an aim to acquire their own facility.

The Jr. NBA Program of the Year recognizes youth basketball organizations for their dedication to developing boys and girls on and off the pitch and to promoting the physical and mental wellbeing of young athletes. The Jr. NBA Program Winner of the Year will receive a $ 5,000 scholarship and will be announced on May 31, 2021.
