San Francisco officials announced a new pilot program that would give inmates a $ 10 monthly allowance.
The Commissary Allowance Pilot Program grants inmates a monthly allowance for the purchase of necessities such as groceries and hygiene products. Those who have been in a city jail for 30 days or more and have had an average commissioner less than ten dollars are eligible for the program. That means just over 100 inmates qualify in city prisons.
The program is part of a series of changes made to the city of San Francisco’s prison systems. The program is currently being piloted for one year.
