SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – San Francisco police arrested a suspect after looking for a man with knives who escaped an area where a fire broke out on Friday and burned down a two-story apartment.

The San Francisco Fire Department said the fire was burning a two-story detached building on the 100 block of Eureka St. on 18th St. in the Castro District of San Francisco.

Before the flames started, police officers responded to the website to get a report on a person screaming, the San Francisco Police Department said.

The officers contacted an adult man who was armed with a knife and then fled the officers, the police said. When the officers searched and built a perimeter, smoke came from a building in that block.

It was not known if the suspect had any connection to the fire. Police were looking for the suspect and asked local residents to keep an eye out for anyone jumping over fences.

The fire department said five adults and two cats had been evicted. No injuries were reported.
