Bearsun, also known as 33-year-old Jesse Larios, wore a life-size teddy bear costume and set out on the path of his life on April 12th.
Larios walks 400 miles from Los Angeles to San Francisco in a bear suit and shares it all on social media.
According to his Instagram story, Larios will be in San Jose starting Thursday. His original goal, he told CNN, was to get to San Francisco by April 17th. But road closures and mountainous terrain made the trip a little more difficult than expected.
Larios, who works for a company that sells health insurance plans, according to CNN, is now taking the time and enjoying the trip, views, and unique interactions along the way.
In an interview with CNN, he said that he camps out without equipment and at the end of the day sleeps wherever he is. He stops at gas stations to eat and clean up.
According to the GoFundMe page, a fundraiser set up by Larios will raise money for a charity to be determined.
Social media users on multiple platforms discovered Bearsun on his journey and took selfies and photos.
Larios regularly updates his Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat (@iambearsun). He is even met by a photographer in different locations to document as much of the hike as possible.
“To be honest, it was all pretty wild,” Larios told KRON4. “It inspires me to do new things. It brings new ideas. That drives my creativity. It helps a lot and it feels good too. “
Bearsun also ran in 2019, finishing the 2020 Los Angeles Marathon.
“I got the stupid idea of just putting the suit on and trying to finish the marathon without ever running a marathon (before),” Larios told CNN.
But the hike to San Francisco is certainly his most daring adventure yet.
“I want to do that. I just want to run marathons in my bear suit, “he said in an interview with CNN.” It makes other people happy too, and for me it’s all about laughing and smiling. “
