The SmithGroup’s San Francisco office is looking for a medical planner to join our team. The role can be fulfilled by the Bay Area or the Sacramento Region.

When you work with us you will:

  • Specialized in planning, programming, medical device planning, process mapping and report writing.
  • Contribute to projects, starting with programming from design documents, and be responsible for the experiential and functional aspects of the proposed design solutions.
  • Conduct programming and medical planning efforts for a variety of health project types and scales. as well as working as part of a larger project planning team under the direction of a senior planner.
  • Cooperation and coordination with designers, project architects, specialist consultants, engineers and construction partners, ie contractors and trading partners, in the creation of drawings and documentation and as a planning resource through project execution / construction.
  • Developing master plans that include analyzing long-term healthcare facility needs and developing solutions that balance building new facilities with renovating existing facilities and integrating campus / urban planning concepts.
  • Exercise exceptional leadership, communication and team building skills.
  • Prepare, attend, and facilitate customer meetings as needed. Document the meeting with meeting notes.
  • Perform checks and searches for codes and regulations.
  • Perform literature and benchmarking analysis and searches.
  • If necessary, train other employees in medical planning.

An ideal candidate has:

  • A bachelor’s degree in architecture or equivalent.
  • At least 7 years of architectural experience.
  • Experience in health or college project types valued but not required.
  • Excellent design / planning ability and the potential to generate a wide variety of options for departmental, healthcare facility and site design.
  • Strong customer leadership and presentation skills.
  • Strong personal leadership, as well as oral and written communication skills
  • Commitment to building and working in a strong team culture.
  • LEED AP and Architectural Registration preferred.
  • Good knowledge of Excel and graphics programs such as Revit, AutoCAD. Knowledge of SketchUp, Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign is an advantage.
