NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE) – Macrae, Inc., a leading transatlantic law firm specializing in partnering with the world’s leading law firms, has added seven new team members in London, New York, Washington, DC and Northern California, including three prominent recruiters. The firm’s continued expansion reflects its multi-year plan to deepen its global footprint to meet the growing demand from law firms that need sophisticated partner-level expertise and high performing attorneys who need expert advice on their next move.
The group of new recruiters consists of partner Erica Bernstein in New York, managing director Suzy O’Keefe in London and managing director Sarah Morris in the San Francisco Bay Area. With their addition, the number of recruiters in the company increases to 15.
“The demand for our services grew extraordinarily strongly in 2020 and will continue to accelerate until 2021. We are therefore pleased to welcome Erica, Sarah and Suzy to our global team. They all have a track record of placing partners at the highest level and we are confident that they make significant contributions in their own markets and across the company, ”said Joe Macrae, Founder and Chairman. “Our growth was intentional at every step. Our goal is not just to attract the most talented professionals in the industry, but to ensure that every individual who joins Macrae in any role strives to embrace and contribute to the highly collaborative, agile, and knowledge-based ethos that defines that us.”
Prior to joining Macrae, Bernstein ran the Erica Michele Group, a boutique recruiting firm she founded in New York, specializing in finding elite partners on the East Coast. She previously served as the global managing director of another boutique firm and as a recruiter for Alan Roberts & Associates, which she joined immediately after graduating from Brooklyn Law School with her JD. O’Keefe joins Macrae from Major, Lindsey & Africa, where she specializes as a General Manager in recruiting candidates for law firms in London, Europe and the Middle East. A former corporate attorney, she graduated from the University of Law in Surrey with a law degree. Morris joins Macrae from Lateral Link, where she served as Principal in the Bay Area office and overseeing projects across California. She has a JD from the University of California at Berkeley School of Law and practiced corporate law with Skadden Arps before moving on to recruiting.
In addition to expanding its recruiting ranks, Macrae recently hired Nancy Rogers as Director of Internal Recruiting. His extensive experience includes a 14-year tenure in developing and overseeing internal recruitment at Major, Lindsey & Africa. Three new knowledge managers have joined the team in the past few weeks, including Krediten Eiermann in New York, Sophia de Guzman in Washington, DC and Ryan Bordon in Palo Alto. The knowledge managers support recruiters while also contributing to and managing Macrae’s comprehensive collective information platform. This vital resource is continually updated in real time to provide all recruiters with unprecedented insight into the law firm developments, trends and activities that drive the world’s major legal markets.
Macrae’s current team of 29 has grown 50% year over year. In 2020, the company increased sales by 95%, exceeding its pre-Covid targets. While most U.S. and global law firms slowed their hiring across the board at the start of the pandemic, many at the top level began re-engaging aggressively in the senior side market in mid-year to strategize the high-growth areas of activity to strengthen resumption of plans for store openings in strategic locations, including the San Francisco Bay Area. Macrae saw increased demand for its services and completed dozens of high profile internships, including a significant number of the “15 Lateral Moves That Defined Big Law in 2020,” as described by Bloomberg Law.
