OAKLAND (CBS SF) – Oakland Athletics cut ties with a catering service after players in the club’s minor league system posted photos of post-game meals of cheese sandwiches and half-filled tortillas.

A group called Advocates for Minor Leaguers published the photos with the words: “No employer would serve these meals to employees who are important to them. Why do the A’s serve them for their future major leaguers? “

Many fans agreed.

Dutch Simmons wrote: “The cheese sandwich is the same one we were served in prison on special days like July 4th. At least we got a slice of watermelon with the coleslaw. “

Katie Speaks posted – “Hell, when I was doing an internship at Rookie Ball, I took the team dinner with me most nights and it was a hell of a lot better than this. I would grab leftovers if they had any, since with my salary of $ 6.50 / hour I would have eaten like the A’s. “

Oh FFS posted – “Bootcamp chow is better than that! How are the athletes supposed to hold out against so few calories and so little food? “

But others weren’t so personable.

Resign Teddy wrote, “My employer doesn’t feed me at all after my day at work. Why are we complaining about free food. Maybe next time you will spend the money on food for the needy instead of spoiled brats. “

Angel wrote, “I work at an elementary school. It’s all about the same kind of food. We teachers and students don’t eat gourmet meals for lunch every day. “

This was totally unacceptable. When we found out about this a few weeks ago, we canceled the third-party provider. We apologize to our players, staff and coaches. We will redouble our efforts to provide the best options for our team at all levels. https://t.co/yPzVWiCx1D
